Local and Farm Fresh
Farm stands and weekly farmer's market provide access to fresh produce, bread, local honey, flowers, and other goods for the community.

St. Mary's County makes it easy to eat local, year-round. Home Grown Farm Market in Lexington Park runs every Saturday, all twelve months of the year, while The Barns at New Market in Mechanicsville and the California Farmers Market both open for the spring-through-fall growing season offering fresh seasonal produce, locally raised meats and seafood, flowers, baked goods, handmade products, and local wines and spirits. Head north toward Charlotte Hall and you're in Amish farm country, with roadside stands and an enclosed Amish market selling produce and baked goods straight from the growers. These aren't tourist attractions-- they are community hubs where residents connect directly with the people who grow and harvest their food, and they play a real role in the local economy by keeping money circulating and giving families access to fresh, high-quality products. It's one of the small, everyday things that makes living here feel different from anywhere closer to the city.
